I have heard it come out of so many woman's mouths. This word - "SORRY"

Goldie Gal

Sorry is what we say when we are apologising for something that we have done to hurt or upset someone.

Well so we thought....

These days, in this world of body positivity, the word sorry is now spoken waaaaay out of context.

- "Hey this is my body, oh and sorry about that!" -

What does it mean when we are apologising for our bodies?

It means a lot of things, I think.  Shame. Disappointment. Struggle.

Lets dive deep.

We grow humans, feed humans, have life changing surgeries. We eat, travel (circa 2019) and indulge when we see friends.

We as a society are focusing on our mental heath and well being so much more post covid.

So why.... why are we apologising for growing a human?

Recovering from lifesaving surgery?

and for enjoying glorious food?

Our biggest mistake in life is thinking we have time. Time to get skinny. Time to get fit and feel yourself. Time to accept our body.

We read so many body positive feeds these days on Instagram and all social channels. We are speaking about more and more about it.

So why have we not caught up with this yet?

The time is now.

Embrace that body.
Feel that confidence grow.

& know you have a safe space at Goldie's, to feel yourself - where ever that may be right now.

See you soon Goldie gang,

Hayley x

International Woman's Day || Lets chat to three incredibly influential Women

Goldie Gal

Hey Goldie gals,

Thanks for joining us for our first blog, we are so happy to have you here.

As you may have noticed, the Goldie team are HUGE supporters of Women in Business! We are thrilled to have so many clients and close friends of the Goldie fam who are influential, female bosses, you all motivate and inspire us daily.

In celebration of International Women’s Day and all things tanning, we have interviewed three influential, female tanning bosses so we can share with you what drives them, inspires them and the challenges they have faced along the journey.

Girls, take 5, grab a coffee....tea or margarita and sit with us. Have a read of their journeys and what International Women’s Day means to each of them.

Our goal is to keep you tanned and inspire you to chase your dreams…

Let's start with our queen of tanning,

Tania Walsh CEO & Founder of Vani-t

Tania is a South Australian local who founded the very well-known VANI-T in 2004. Tania, a mother of 3 was simply looking for a natural alternative to fake tanning. Tania had a fierce and passionate history within the beauty industry, it was this drive and passion that created such a mark in our tanning industry.

If you haven't heard of Vani-t, I can almost guarantee that you have been sprayed with a VANI-T solution at some point!

Tania has expanded her brand from tanning solutions to an empire of wellbeing products including Mineral Make up, Plant based skin care, Supplements and my personal favourite, Collagen peptides!

Have a read of how Tania feels about International Woman's Day, who inspires her daily & why she thinks we need more female leaders.

What does international women’s day mean to you?

It’s about celebrating all the incredible things about being a woman. It’s about empowering each other to be the best version of ourselves- supporting, inspiring, encouraging, and celebrating our uniqueness and individuality. I feel being raw, open and real is the epitome of female energy, but the strength and character building that success brings creates a beautiful balance between the two.

As a female, what challenges have you faced along your career?

Definitely becoming a mother has been the most difficult to navigate, despite all the blessings it brings.  Societal pressures to stay home and raise children has placed much stress & guilt on me to be honest as I always dreamed of being home to raise them but running an international business required me to commit to many long hours. I have worked through the emotional stress caused by the guilt however believe it is something many women are faced with these days.

Why do you think we need more female leaders?

Having more leaders will empower and inspire other women- when you see others succeed you feel far more capable of doing the same. It also allows you to resonate with them and understand where the challenges are so you can navigate them too.

What female leaders do you look up to? Who inspires you? & Why?

I have two- Janine Allis Founder of Boost Juice because she has grown a hugely successful empire, and Founder of IT Cosmetics, Jamie Kern Lima as she has also experienced phenomenal success and the story of how she started and the challenges she’s faced are very similar to my own story so I find her really relatable. I am reading her book at the moment, truly inspiring!

And finally, there is a lot of smoke and mirrors on Instagram. What we see can often be not real life. It is a highlight reel after all. What is something down to earth about you that you can share? Could be something you have never shared before OR something we wouldn’t know about you?

I love the outdoors! Being an earth sign I love anything that brings me close to nature. Whether it be camping, beach, river, hiking, meditation/yoga outdoors, star gazing or gardening. It always balances me and I feel so energized and recharged afterwards. Spending time in nature is one of my non-negotiables in life

Tanias outlook on life has truly been shown in the incredible range and company that Vani-t is.

Now, you may not know this (we may have just met) :), but when I am not running Goldies or feeding the kids, I also work for a company called Spray Aus!  A Melbourne born and bred company who have two gorgeous solutions and a boutique style retail range. You would have seen these products in our studio.

This heaven duo are both from Melbourne. Em & El are probably the two nicest people you will ever meet. Not only inspiring me weekly, this company, without realising it, have created a safe and flexible space for working mothers. Everyone works remotely and work just.gets.done!

Let's chat all thing Spray Aus. How this brand was born and what keeps the girls motivated for more....

Ellie Pearson Creative Director & Co Founder of Spray Aus

Founded in 2014, the Spray Aus brand was discovered and created by besties Em and El. Loving all things tanning, they thought life is just better with colour (& we couldn't agree more). Non streaky, no orange tones and not drying on the skin, this due was on a mission to keep Australia, & the world, looking natural 365 days a year.

After building up an incredible brand, the girls were then joined by power duo Nadia Bartel and Bec Judd to push it to the next level The girls took their tans into their own hands. They wanted to develop a luxurious mist that would dry quickly and evenly on the skin. We think they nailed it!

With a growing boutique retail range, this Australian & female run business is all about a natural glow all year round.

Have a read of who El admires, what International Woman's Day means to her and how being young, female and in business has had its challenges.

  1. What does international women’s day mean to you?

Cliche, but honouring all women. Recognise all. the achievements / sacrifices and things we do from milestones down to everyday things. This is our day.

  1. As a female, what challenges have you faced along your career?

I guess for me my naivety & honesty being taken advantage of in certain business situations. This comes with being female and quite young in the business world.

  1. Why do you think we need more female leaders?

To inspire other younger women in every walk of life. We are getting there, in the last few years female leaders are becoming increasing recognised and respected.

  1. What female leaders do you look up to? Who inspires you? & Why?

Honestly, my friends who are single mums. Life is hard and having a child to look after and raise whilst trying to work & run their own lives. I mean, I couldn’t be more inspired by this.

  1. And finally, there is a lot of smoke and mirrors on Instagram. What we see can often be not real life. It is a highlight reel after all. What is something down to earth about you that you can share? Could be something you have never shared before OR something we wouldn’t know about you?

Yes it’s all smoke and mirrors. Everyone puts up the best part of their lives on insta, which doesn’t mean they have personal problems going on behind closed doors. I have a sibling who suffers from addiction - I am not really open about this but it is something I now feel needs to be addressed and spoken about to recognise those suffering from severe mental health.

El is the creative leader of Spray Aus. With her sidekick Em and a growing Spray Aus girl squad, they are slowly making a huge mark on our tanning industry!

and Finally,

Jasmine Scarr CEO & Founder of Bella Bronze

Jasmine was a hustler in the tanning industry dating back to 2007. With a booming mobile tanning business, Jasmine saw a gap in the market and a colour that was clearly needed.

With knowledge of what a consumer needs, she then spent 2 year formulating the most perfect bronze. in 2014 Jasmine released Bella Bronze Violet solution and is now used Australian wide with international growth.

Jasmine is also a mum and we think she is nailing it all. Friendly, passionate and a clear juggler of all things, we were desperate to hear her views on females in our industry. Have a read.

1.What does international women’s day mean to you?

It is a day celebrate the many achievements of women over the years. We have had so many obstacles thrown our way and it’s a day to reflect on the improvements over the years for equality and also what it means to be a woman in business.

  1. As a female, what challenges have you faced along your career?

Being a short, blonde female I have been placed into stereotypical categories before speaking over the years. So many are quick to judge, but my brain and manner of speech shines brighter in these situations and that judgement fades very quickly.

  1. Why do you think we need more female leaders?

I think as females we tend to have a better work/life balance - we have kids and still get the jobs done  (and being a mum I can tell you is a full time job in itself!). We are more understanding of the needs of staff which in turn creates a better working relationship. We are great listeners, more empathetic and love a challenge.

  1. What female leaders do you look up to? Who inspires you? & Why?

Jacinda Adern for starters - what she has done for New Zealand and continues to do is just extraordinary in such a male driven industry.

Melanie Perkins - CEO of Canva: Melanie has changed the way we run our SME with this app, her story is beyond inspiring and I don’t know a single person that has not heard of her and the company she created

My mum Cathy: after having my daughter I will never forget the emotion that came over me when I realised my mum did all of this for my siblings and I.   She had 3 kids under the age of 24, I don’t know she did it! She is the most loving, nurturing and selfless human I have ever met and anyone that meets my mum says the same thing.

And finally, there is a lot of smoke and mirrors on Instagram. What we see can often be not real life. It is a highlight reel after all. What is something down to earth about you that you can share? Could be something you have never shared before OR something we wouldn’t know about you?

I began working at 12 umpiring netball games to pay for my own clothes (from Target that is) as we didn’t have much money. I have always been a good saver and hard worker to achieve what I wanted. When I opened my first salon in 2014, I was still driving my 2009 Black Hyundai Getz with 1 hubcap and tan stains all over the interior from mobile tanning and didn’t own my first brand new car until 2015 when I was almost 30.

Girls, I hope you feel inspired after hearing from some of our fierce Australian Female leaders, I know I do.

Stay bronzed Goldie girls & until next time…

Hayley
